Haute Dogs presented its 6th Annual INTERFAITH BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS on Sat., Sept. 29 at noon under the shade trees at Heartwell Park in Long Beach. Approx. 300 pets lined up to get blessed by seven various faith leaders. Some unusual pets included a horse, a turtle, ferrets, a pig, a snake, as well as birds, cats, and a good number of dogs. This event is the second largest interfaith pet blessing at this time of year and is held in conjunction with St. Francis Day (Oct. 4).
Justin Rudd, who puts the annual event together, says that, "Traditionally, Blessings of the Animals are celebrations marked by Roman Catholics on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. But, what makes our event different is that we open our blessing up to all kinds of faiths and beliefs. It's important for all of us to recognize and honor the great bond and relationship between pets and their people," says Rudd.
